The 18LW2400 is an 18-inch extended range low-frequency speaker designed for high-SPL subwoofer applications in reflex, band pass or horn configuration. Compared to our industry standard 18LW1400, the 18LW2400 offers a higher maximum SPL, greater program power handling and lower power compression. For best results we recommend amplifiers that can deliver 2400 Watt program power without clipping. Transducer design features include a large displacement suspension system which, in combination with a ribbed, fiberglass-reinforced rigid cone and Eighteen Sound's proprietary Double Silicon Spider (DSS) technology, enables ultra piston action. - Linear and provides full mechanical control during the entire range work. The 100 mm (4 inch) internal-external copper voice coil based on ISV (Interleaved Sandwich Voice Coil) technology provides high levels of thermal stability and durability. In order to further increase power handling and reduce power compression, the 18LW2400 utilizes the same voice coil ventilation technology developed for our flagship 9000 neodymium transducer series. A special air diffractor made of a low density has been placed in the rear plate which acts as a cooling system, increasing the power handling capacity and lowering the power compression value. As a final result Eighteen sound engineers achieved a nearly 1 dB reduction in full power compression value compared to 18LW1400 and an increase in program power handling value of 2400 Watts. The low distortion and unmatched sound quality of the 18LW2400 have been greatly enhanced by the dual demodulator rings (DDR) incorporated into the pole expansion of the magnetic structure. These have been designed to reduce intermodulation and harmonic distortion by improving transient response. A 10% weight reduction was achieved by optimizing the magnetic structure through advanced CAD FEA simulation tools. 18LW2400 is able to function correctly in adverse weather conditions: the exclusive treatment of the cone improves the resistance of the pulp and gives water repellent properties to both sides of the cone. Furthermore, the special treatment applied to the upper and rear plates of the magnetic structure is much more resistant to the corrosive effects of salts and oxidation.
